The recently concluded third edition of the prestigious Hardrock Summit, which unfolded in Denver from September 15 to 18, 2023, stands as a testament to a resounding success, drawing over 1,000 trade visitors and nearly 6,000 total enthusiasts to the show. The event showcased a delightful blend of exhibitions, activities, and educational ventures, putting fine jewellery, gemstones, and mineral specimens in the spotlight. Notably, it saw enthusiastic participation from esteemed members of the American Gem Trade Association (AGTA GemFair™ Denver) and the Denver Gem & Mineral Show (DGMS).
The event provided a platform for a diverse audience, ranging from industry professionals to eager consumers, who were treated to a spectacular array of displays. These displays included captivating exhibits from renowned institutions and private collectors such as the Rice Northwest Museum of Rocks & Minerals, New Mexico Bureau of Geology Mineral Museum, Mines Museum of Earth Science, The University of Arizona Alfie Norville Gem, Mineral Museum, Denver Museum of Nature and Science, the Jim and Gail Spann Collection, and the Gene Meieran Tourmaline Slices.
Among the attendees were notable figures within the industry, including Carl Larson of Pala International, who reflected on the event, stating, “As a smaller and more regional show, we were pleased with the quality retailers and collectors we met with for both the minerals and gem sectors of our businesses. It was a nice environment to build upon our relationships and make new connections within the industry.” John Bradshaw of John J. Bradshaw emphasised the significance of the Hardrock Summit, particularly for the coloured stones sector, stating, “Hardrock Summit is a well-timed show for purchasing coloured stones, particularly benefiting retailers ahead of the holiday season. The rising demand in the coloured gem market aligns perfectly with this show’s timing and it was good to be part of it.”
Educational enrichment was a key aspect of the summit, featuring a series of insightful lectures delivered by distinguished presenters. These sessions spread throughout the weekend and provided attendees with expert insights, valuable information, and updates on the latest trends in the mineral and gem industries. Collaborating with the Hardrock Summit, the 55th Annual Denver Gem & Mineral Show (DGMS) presented an array of family-friendly attractions. Attendees had the unique opportunity to explore minerals from across the globe, marvel at meteorites and ancient fossils, experience the mesmerising fluorescent room with rocks that illuminated in the dark, indulge in gold panning, and peruse a diverse selection of exquisite jewellery and gems. Skilled lapidary artists conducted captivating live cutting and polishing demonstrations, adding an extra layer of intrigue to the event.
In an exciting announcement, plans were unveiled for the Hardrock Summit 2024. Building on the momentum gained over its first three years, the event will shift to a new venue, The Westin Hotel in Westminster, located just a few minutes north of Denver. Scheduled from September 12 to 15, 2024, the fourth edition of the Hardrock Summit promises to be a grand affair.
